August, 2003 - Two Pennsylvania women, Cathy Tongue and her Mother, Anne McLain, have creatively used several of my block designs from the Pieceful Garden 1 & 2 patterns in two very beautiful quilts.
A quilt by Cathy's Mom, Anne McLain
Here's what Cathy says about these stunning quilts:
You should be excited! Thanks so much for giving us a preview of your fabulous quilts!I found your website about 3 years ago, and started making some of the blocks. One evening, as my family was traveling home from visiting my inlaws in Altoona, PA while stopped at a rest stop I picked up a napkin and began drawing the sun, garden path, and fence to surround my sampler. I then decided that my quilt was now too large for a wallhanging, and if I was going to make a bed size quilt, I should really make it a queen size. I was then stumped because I didn't want it to look like I was just adding borders to fill up space. After putting the project away for a few months, and getting it back out during the winter months, I then decided to add the mountains, the applique and the diagonal rows of flower squares. While I was doing this, I found the lattice work sashing and thought.... oh, that's what I should have done and suggested it to my mom. Well, again to make a queen size, we needed more blocks. I did end up ordering your patterns [Pieceful Garden 1 & 2], which are really nicely printed with easy to follow directions.
Then the quilts sat alittle longer, while we waited for someone to hand quilt them. I myself am too busy making quilt tops to hand quilt. And I do more machine quilting than hand. But at last they are finished and we really like them. We did enter [the quilts] in a local fair and both won prizes. Also, we just received notification of them being accepted into the Fort Washington, PA - Mancuso Brothers show held in mid-Sept. We are very excited about that.
