This was our very first moose "hunting" trip of the year. We had just read in the newspaper that moose were back in the swamps from their winter in the softwoods. They sure are!
This moose was seen just before the turn-off to Big Averill (pond). She was totally unconcerned with us, just lapped up the muddy water.
Moose 2, 3, & 4
These three were in the gully just after the pond before Canaan. They were very skittish and disappeared just after this picture.
Moose 5 & 6
This mother and yearling were seen near the Norton Dam entrance. They crossed the road several times while we took pictures. There's a reason to drive with caution on Vermont roads!
Moose 7 & 8
The final two were also a mother and yearling. As you may be able to tell, it was just about dark. They were west of Norton, at the logging road west of the narrow overpass going towards Island Pond.
Tonight's "hunt" was a new record - 8 in one evening!
